The aircraft would use a jet engine for most flight, and a cluster of four small rocket engines for added thrust during climb and interception. The design was largely obsolete by the time it was completed due to the rapidly increasing performance of contemporary jet engines, and only two prototypes were built. Esta aeronave seria alimentada por um motor turbojet J47-GE-17 durante a maior parte do voo, e um conjunto de quatro pequenos motores a foguete para ajudar a impulsionar a aeronave numa descolagem e subida súbitas. Dois foguetes localizavam-se acima do motor, e os outros dois abaixo.
