De line producer is tijdens de productiefase van een film of televisieserie verantwoordelijk voor de financiële gang van zaken. Sono responsabili delle risorse umane e della gestione di eventuali problemi che emergono durante la produzione. Inoltre gestiscono anche il budget di un film e gli aspetti fisici quotidiani della produzione del film. Mezi jeho další podřízené patří asistent produkce, a pokladník. Produkční se výroby účastní od prvního dne přípravných prací do schválení filmu (televizní/rozhlasové hry,…). V případě klasického filmu jeho povinnosti končí po odevzdání promítacích kopií, předání všech podkladů do filmových laboratoří + obvykle dalších 20 pracovních dnů pro splnění všech povinností spojených s likvidací a vyúčtováním filmu.
