- Tanec smrti (Dödsdansen) patří mezi Strindbergova světově nejhranější dramata. První díl napsal autor podle všeho v říjnu 1900, druhý díl pak v prosinci téhož roku. Oba dva díly vyšly na podzim roku 1901. Premiéra prvního dílu se konala 8. září 1908 ve Strindbergově Intimním divadle, druhý díl byl uveden 1. října téhož roku. Již předtím však byla hra zinscenována v v Kolíně nad Rýnem (premiéra 29. a 30. září 1905). V českých zemích byl Tanec smrti (1. díl) uveden poprvé v Městském divadle na Královských Vinohradech (dnes Praha) 4. ledna 1917 v režii K. H. Hilara. Oba díly dramatu však byly v českém prostředí uvedeny až 3. března 1936 v režii Gabriela Harta v Komorním divadle v Praze. (cs)

- The Dance of Death (Swedish: Dödsdansen) refers to two plays, The Dance of Death I, and The Dance of Death II, both written by August Strindberg in 1900. Part one was written in September, and then, after receiving a response to the play, part two was written in November. The two plays have much in common, and each is a full evening in the theatre. If they are joined together as one theatre-going experience, a couple of unexplained discrepancies between the two plays present difficulties. Scritto nel 1900 in una sola settimana, rappresenta una parte della produzione dell'autore nella quale le opere vengono popolate da personaggi tormentati che finiscono con lo scontrarsi tra loro in una lotta omicida. La storia è incentrata sul matrimonio di Edgar e Alice alla soglia delle nozze d'argento; entrambi sono dei "falliti": lui, capitano dell'esercito, non è mai riuscito a diventare maggiore, mentre la donna non ha coronato i suoi sogni di gloria con la carriera di attrice che ha abbandonato per il matrimonio.
