Album vyšlo jako náhrada za album Bat Chain Puller, které ze soudního důvodu nevyšlo. Původní verze alba Bat Chain Puller vyšla až v únoru 2012, necelé dva roky po Beefhearově smrti. (cs)

- Shiny Beast (Bat Chain Puller) is the tenth studio album by American band Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band, released in October 1978 by Warner Bros. Records. The album emerged from production difficulties surrounding Bat Chain Puller, an album Captain Beefheart recorded for DiscReet and Virgin Records in 1976. DiscReet co-founders Herb Cohen and Frank Zappa feuded over the production of the album, because Cohen funded the production with Zappa's royalty checks. Captain Beefheart recorded a new album titled Shiny Beast (Bat Chain Puller) due to Zappa withholding the master tapes of the original Bat Chain Puller album. (en)

- Shiny Beast (Bat Chain Puller) är ett musikalbum av Captain Beefheart och The Magic Band som lanserades 1978 på Warner Bros. Records. I Europa släpptes albumet två år senare, 1980. Titeln inom parentes kommer sig av att Captain Beefherat spelat in ett helt annat album med den titeln. Det albumet kom dock aldrig ut då producenten Herb Cohen använt pengar som tillhört Frank Zappa för att bekosta inspelningen och produktionen. Zappa vägrade då att lämna ifrån sig inspelningarna om han inte kompenserades, och följden blev att Bat Chain Puller inte lanserades för allmänheten förrän år 2012. Beefheart valde under de rättsliga processer som följde att göra nya inspelningar av några låtar från det planerade albumet, samt spela in några helt nya låtar och ge ut detta album istället. (sv)
