- Die Seongsu-Brücke (성수대교 Seongsu-daegyo) ist eine Straßenbrücke in Seoul über den Hangang und verbindet die Stadtteile Seongdong und Gangnam. Sie wurde ab April 1977 von in Stahlfachwerkbauweise mit Pfeilern aus Stahlbeton errichtet und im Oktober 1979 fertiggestellt. Die Brücke stürzte am 21. Oktober 1994 um 7:40 Uhr ein. Aufgrund eines falschen Schweißverfahrens kam es zu einem Strukturversagen der Konstruktion, wodurch ein 48 m breites Teilstück 17 Meter tief in den Fluss stürzte. Dabei wurden ein Bus, ein Lieferwagen und zwei Pkw in die Tiefe gerissen, es kamen 32 Menschen ums Leben und 17 wurden verletzt. An der Suchaktion im Fluss, die durch Regen und Wind erschwert wurde, beteiligten sich auch zahlreiche kleinere zivile Boote. Das Teilstück versank wegen der jahreszeitlich bedingten geringen Wassertiefe nicht komplett im Fluss, sondern blieb sichtbar. Zunächst wurde eine Reparatur in Erwägung gezogen, diese erwies sich aber aufgrund der Mängel in Konstruktion und Bauausführung als undurchführbar. Daher blieb ein kompletter Neubau der Brücke die einzige Möglichkeit. Der Neubau begann am 26. April 1995 und wurde von durchgeführt. Neben den Versteifungen, die die Querbelastungen aufnehmen können, wurde die Betonfahrbahn durch Stahlplatten ersetzt, die das Gesamtgewicht der Brücke verringern. Zusätzlich wurde die Anzahl der Fahrbahnen von vier auf acht erhöht. Alle Baumaßnahmen wurden am 15. August 1997 abgeschlossen. Der Einsturz der Seongsu-Brücke war nicht der einzige Einsturz einer Brücke in Südkorea: Seit 1970 stürzten insgesamt acht Brücken, davon drei im Raum Seoul, ein. In den meisten Fällen lag die Ursache darin, dass man der Schnelligkeit den Vorzug vor der Sicherheit gegeben hatte. (de)

El puente voladizo se completó en 1979, y su longitud total es de 1.160 metros Se hizo famoso cuando se derrumbó el 21 de octubre de 1994. El puente se derrumbó por la mañana temprano, cuando uno de sus losas de concreto cayó debido a una falla de la estructura de la suspensión. Este fallo estructural fue causado por la soldadura inadecuada de las armaduras de acero de la estructura de la suspensión por debajo de la calzada de hormigón. En el accidente murieron 32 personas y 17 resultaron heridas. Después, se suponía que el puente fuese reparado, pero debido a una debilidad en la estructura, tuvo que ser completamente rediseñado y reconstruido. El nuevo diseño se terminó el 15 de agosto de 1997, y es similar al diseño original. (es)

The cantilever bridge was completed in 1979 and its total length is 1,160 metres (3,810 ft). The original bridge collapsed early on the morning of October 21, 1994, when one of its sections broke off due to failure of the supporting truss, caused by a faulty weld. A total of 32 people died and 17 were injured in the accident. In the aftermath of the event, authorities planned to repair the bridge, but its structural weaknesses made a repair unfeasible and it was eventually dismantled and replaced. The new design was finished on 15 August 1997, and is similar to the original design. (en)
