- Die Polybahn, auch Polybähnli oder Studenten-Express genannt, ist eine meterspurige Standseilbahn in der Schweizer Stadt Zürich. Sie verbindet das Central mit der Polyterrasse vor dem Hauptgebäude der ETH Zürich. Der Name Polybahn leitet sich von der bis 1911 benutzten alten Bezeichnung Eidgenössische polytechnische Schule der ETH ab. Die Bahn ist im Besitz der UBS-Polybahn AG, einer Tochtergesellschaft der Bank UBS, wird durch die Verkehrsbetriebe Zürich (VBZ) betrieben und gehört zum Zürcher Verkehrsverbund (ZVV). The line links the Central square with the terrace by the main building of ETH Zürich, which was formerly called Eidgenössisches Polytechnikum, and from which the railway derives its name. Previous names for the line include the SBG Polybahn and the Zürichbergbahn. The line is owned by the banking group UBS AG, and operated on their behalf by the municipal transport operator Verkehrsbetriebe Zürich. The Polybahn is one of two funiculars within the city of Zürich, the other being the Rigiblick funicular in the city's northern suburbs. Le funiculaire a été mis en service en 1889, électrifié en 1897 (il fonctionnait avec un système à eau à l'origine), sauvé in extremis en 1976, année où le funiculaire devint la propriété de la banque suisse UBS. En 1996, le funiculaire a été complètement rénové tout en conservant son style : les nouvelles cabines sont inspirées des anciennes ; elles sont capables de transporter 50 passagers. La voie fait 176 mètres de long pour une dénivellation de 41 mètres, il effectue le parcours en 2 minutes trente à une vitesse de 2,5 m/s (soit 9 km/h). (fr)
