- Nadja ist ein Roman des französischen Surrealisten André Breton. Der ursprüngliche Text wurde Anfang 1928 abgeschlossen und im Mai des Jahres veröffentlicht; 1963 kam der Roman in einer überarbeiteten Fassung heraus. Er beginnt mit dem unerwarteten Aufeinandertreffen des Autors mit einer jungen Frau, die sich Nadja nennt und auf ihn eine gewisse Faszination ausübt. Tatsächlich war Breton im Oktober 1926 in für ihn zehn „surrealistischen“ Tagen mit Léona Delcourt zusammen und erhielt von ihr in den folgenden vier Monaten eine Reihe von Briefen und Zeichnungen. - Nadja (1928), the second book published by André Breton, is one of the iconic works of the French surrealist movement. It begins with the question "Who am I?" It is based on Breton's actual interactions with a young woman, Nadja (actually Léona Camille Ghislaine Delacourt 1902–1941), over the course of ten days, and is presumed to be a semi-autobiographical description of his relationship with a patient of Pierre Janet. The book's non-linear structure is grounded in reality by references to other Paris surrealists such as Louis Aragon and 44 photographs. The last sentence of the book ("Beauty will be CONVULSIVE or will not be at all") provided the title for Pierre Boulez's flute concerto ...explosante-fixe.... Dating from 1960, the widely available English translation by Richard Howard is a translation of the first edition of Breton's novel, dating from 1928. Breton published a second, revised edition in 1963. No English translation of this second edition is currently available. (en)

- Nadja è un romanzo autobiografico dello scrittore e teorico del movimento surrealista André Breton uscito presso Gallimard nel 1928, e in edizione rivista dall'autore nel 1963. In italiano nella traduzione di Giordano Falzoni e con una nota di Lino Gabellone, è uscito nella collana "Einaudi Letteratura" nel 1972, quindi nella "Nuovi coralli" nel 1977, e nella "Letture", con prefazione di nel 2007, presso Einaudi. Il libro, definito da Maurice Blanchot "libro sempre futuro", racconta dell'incontro tra lo scrittore e Léona Delcourt (1902-1941), che si fa chiamare Nadja, avvenuto la prima volta il 4 ottobre 1926 a Parigi e comprende fotografie e disegni, tra le quali, immagini della città, programmi di teatro, opere e disegni, e i ritratti di Paul Éluard, Benjamin Péret, Robert Desnos, l'attrice Blanche Derval (1885-1973), l'indovina Madame Sacco, lo psichiatra (1869-1945) e l'autore stesso. Con tono da inchiesta realistica, ripresa direttamente dalla vita il racconto si divide in tre tempi:
* chi sono io? sorta di introspezione auto-analitica e poetica
* il calendario degli incontri tra 4 e il 13 ottobre 1926 e le impressioni che la ragazza suscita (anche in incontri successivi, fino al suo internamento in manicomio), in una sorta di seconda domanda: chi vive?
* una riflessione successiva e delirante sul senso di scrivere su questo incontro e su altro, con la conclusione che "la bellezza sarà CONVULSA o non sarà". In una lettera a Jean Paulhan del 2 dicembre 1939, Breton esprime il desiderio di rilegare sotto la stessa copertina Nadja con (1932), e L'Amour fou (1937), per rendere manifesto il legame che li unisce.
