- Lipská Baumwollspinnerei je areál bývalé přádelny bavlny v Lipsku o rozloze 10 ha nacházející se v západní části města. Z bývalé továrny založené v roce 1881, která počátkem 20. století byla největší zpracovatelnou bavlny v Evropě, se na začátku 21. století stalo tvůrčí a výstavní místo současné kultury a umění. Nyní je využívána jako kreativní centrum, kde se nachází jedenáct galerií, ateliéry, přes sto umělců, dílny, architekti, designéři, módní návrháři, výtvarné potřeby, divadelní soubor Spinnwerk, mezinárodní centrum tance a choreografie, tiskárny, vydavatelství, kino LURU, galerie HALLE 14 další organizace. Na začátku 90. let se ve Spinnerei usadili první umělci. Nebyl to výsledek aktivního plánování, ale zájem o umění a experimenty. Nakonec i rozvaha, podpora i investice vlastníků areálu o přebudování posunula Spinnerei tam, kde se nachází dnes. Třikrát do roka se o víkendu koná „přehlídka“ (něm. Rundgang) nových výstav galerií sídlících ve Spinnerei. (cs)

- The Leipziger Baumwollspinnerei (Leipzig Cotton Mill) is an industrial site in Leipzig, Germany. Parts of this 10-hectare site in the district of Lindenau are used today by art galleries, studios and restaurants. Founded in 1884, the business developed into the largest cotton mill in continental Europe over the next quarter century. During this time, an entire industrial town with over 20 factories, workers' housing, kindergartens and a recreational area, grew in western Leipzig. The mill reached its maximum extent in 1907, with 240,000 spindles processing cotton across a working area of about 25 acres (100,000 m2). Up to 4,000 people worked there, until production of thread was halted in 1993 following the reunification of Germany several years earlier. Subsequently, the area was repopulated by a mixture of people including craftsmen, self-employed, and above all artists, many belonging to the so-called "New Leipzig School". More than half of the available space has since been rented out again for new purposes. Ten galleries, a communal arts center (Halle 14), and around 100 artists (including Neo Rauch, Jim Whiting, , and Matthias Weischer) have all settled at the site, as well as restaurants, fashion designers, architects, printers, a goldsmith, a pottery, a film club, a porcelain manufacturer, and an arts supply store. The site contained several platform interchanges from a now-disused railway between Lindenau and Plagwitz. Parts of the platforms are still intact. (en)

Cette ancienne filature désaffectée est maintenant un quartier d'art avec de nombreuses galeries, commerces, studios et restaurants. Fondée en 1884, l'usine est devenue la plus grande filature cotonnière en Europe continentale pendant un quart de siècle. Pendant ce temps, une ville industrielle entière de 20 usines, avec des logements ouvriers, des écoles maternelles et des espaces de loisirs, s'est développée autour de la filature. Elle a atteint son plus grand développement en 1907. Sur environ 100 000 m2 fonctionnaient 240 000 fuseaux pour le filage du coton. L'usine a employé jusqu'à 4 000 personnes, jusqu'à la fin de la production en 1993 quelques années après la réunification allemande. Après quoi la zone a été repeuplée avec des personnes diverses comme des artisans, des auto-entrepreneurs, et surtout des artistes, la plupart appartenant à la Neue Leipziger Schule (Nouvelle école de Leipzig) de peinture. Plus de la moitié des bâtiments ont été reloués pour de nouveaux usages. Une dizaine de galeries, un centre municipal des arts (Halle 14), et environ une centaine d'artistes (comme Neo Rauch, (de) ou (de)) se sont installés sur le site, ainsi que des restaurants, des stylistes, des architectes, des imprimeurs, un orfèvre, un potier, un cinéma et un magasin de matériel d'art.
