- Der ICC Intercontinental Cup ist ein internationales Cricket-Turnier. Er wurde vom International Cricket Council ins Leben gerufen, um den Ländern unmittelbar unterhalb der sogenannten Test-Cricket-Nationen die Möglichkeit zu geben, regelmäßig First-Class-Spiele austragen zu können und sie so langsam an dieses Niveau heranführen zu können. First-Class Cricket ist normalerweise nur Mannschaften in den Full Member Nations vorbehalten, die 5-Tages-Länderspiele zwischen diesen Ländern nennt man Test Matches. Die Spiele um den ICC Intercontinental Cup besitzen daher „nur“ First-Class-Status. Im ersten Jahr 2004 gingen die Spiele über drei, seit 2006 über vier Tage, wie es heutzutage auch meist in den nationalen First-Class-Wettbewerben der Test-Nationen üblich ist. In den ersten beiden Jahren wurde Punkte für Runs und Wickets vergeben, 2006 sind das Endergebnis und etwaige Führungen oder Rückstände nach den ersten Innings ausschlaggebend. (de)
- The ICC Intercontinental Cup was a first-class cricket tournament organised by the International Cricket Council (ICC) as part of its cricket development programme. It was designed to allow Associate Members of the ICC the chance to play first-class cricket matches over four days against teams of similar skill in a competition environment and prepare them for eventual promotion to Test cricket status. First run in 2004, two of the most successful teams in the history of the tournament, Ireland and Afghanistan were promoted to Full Member and Test status, in 2017. In October 2018, the ICC issued a media release asking for an expression of interest from teams who have competed in previous editions of the tournament. However, since no further news regarding a new edition have emerged since then, the future of the tournament was put into doubt. In April 2021, the ICC looked at the possibility of multi-day matches between Associate Members with One Day International (ODI) status, and Test teams who are not part of the ICC World Test Championship. Het toernooi werd georganiseerd door de International Cricket Council. De eerste editie was in 2004 en de laatste liep in 2015-2017. Met de herschikking van diverse internationale crickettoernooien lijkt de Intercontinental Cup een stille dood te zijn gestorven. Nederland heeft aan alle edities van het toernooi meegedaan.
