- Drangey je ostrov u severního pobřeží Islandu. Nachází se v zálivu v regionu . Je tvořen tufovým skaliskem, jehož strmé stěny převyšují okolní oceán až o 180 metrů. Má rozlohu dvacet hektarů a je bez stálého lidského osídlení. Ostrov je spojen s významnou památkou islandské středověké literatury nazvanou , podle níž se sem uchýlil před spravedlností Grettir Silný, stíhaný pro vraždu. Drangey je turistickou atrakcí díky velkému množství mořských ptáků jako je papuchalk bělobradý, alkoun úzkozobý, racek tříprstý nebo raroh lovecký. (cs)

- Drangey (Icelandic pronunciation: [ˈtrauŋkˌeiː]) or Drang Isle is an island in the Skagafjörður fjord in northern Iceland. It is the remnant of a 700,000‑year‑old volcano, mostly made of volcanic palagonite tuff, forming a massive rock fortress. The island was first mentioned in the Icelandic classic Grettis saga as being the refuge of the outlaw Grettir, who spent his last years there with his brother Illugi and his slave Glaumur. He fled there with his two companions when enemies were seeking his life because of its high, impervious cliffs. It is described as having a flock of 80 sheep, and many birds nesting on the cliffs. In late autumn of 1031, Grettir was assassinated where he lay dying in his shed on the island. Þorbjörn Öngull and his men were the perpetrators. An old legend says that two night-prowling giants, a man and a woman, were traversing the fjord with their cow when they were surprised by the bright rays of daybreak. As a result of exposure to daylight, all three were turned into stone. Drangey represents the cow and Kerling (supposedly the female giant, the name means "Old Hag") is to the south of it. Karl (the male giant) was to the north of the island, but he disappeared long ago. The bird life in Drangey is varied and lively, but the most common are diving birds: the guillemot, auk and puffin. The guillemot nests in the cliffs, while the auk mostly prefers deep cracks underneath the cliffs. The puffin, on the other hand, digs holes in the edge of the cliffs. In addition to these species, the black-legged kittiwake and fulmar nest in the cliffs and the raven and falcon also have their sanctuaries there. Drangey has for ages been a harbinger of spring for the local residents. Every spring, they visited the island to collect both eggs and birds. They used ropes to climb down the fowling cliffs for the eggs, but the birds were caught using rafts placed on the sea underneath the cliffs. These rafts were covered with bird snares made of horsehair. The bird catchers mostly found shelter in sheds on the beach on the southernmost tip of the island. From this point, they also used to go fishing in their boats. At peak seasonal periods, there were as many as 200 men engaged in fowling and the catch was in excess of 200,000 birds when the yield was best. The use of snares was discontinued in 1966. (en)

- Drangey (pilaareiland) is een eiland in het midden van de Skagafjörður fjord, die in het noorden van IJsland ligt. Het rijst met kliffen van bijna 200 meter hoog zeer steil uit zee op, en de top is slechts via een moeilijk pad omhoog te bereiken. Dragey is het restant van wat 700.000 jaar geleden eens een vulkaan is geweest, en bestaat vrijwel geheel uit tufsteen. Drangey wordt voor het eerst genoemd in Grettirs saga, dat verhaalt over Grettir, een zeer sterk man die vele jaren als vogelvrij verklaarde over IJsland zwierf. De laatste periode van zijn leven woonde hij samen met zijn broer Illugi en een slaaf boven op het eiland, en wisten ze hun belagers ruim 3 jaar van het lijf te houden. Door een onoplettendheid van hun slaaf wisten ze toch boven te komen, en waarschijnlijk in de herfst van het jaar 1013 werden Grettir en zijn broer vermoord. Grettir lag toen eigenlijk al stervende te bed nadat hij door een vervloeking een ernstig wond had opgelopen. Volgens een oude legende staken op een nacht twee trollen, Karl (‘’kerel’’) en Kerling (‘’oude vrouw’’), samen met een koe het fjord over toen ze door de dageraad werden verrast. Toen ze aan het daglicht werden blootgesteld, versteenden ze. Drangey is de versteende koe, Kerling (de vrouwelijke trol) is nu een eilandje ten zuiden ervan. In vroeger tijden lag Karl als een eilandje ten noorden van Drangey, maar het is al geruime tijd in de golven verdwenen. Op Drangey nestelen vele vogelsoorten, waaronder alken, Noordse stormvogels en papegaaiduikers. Daarnaast komen er meerdere meeuwen voor, zoals de drieteenmeeuw. Bovendien is het een schuil- en broedplaats voor minder voor de hand liggende vogelsoorten, zoals voor raven en valken. Drangey werd vroeger voornamelijk gebruikt om schapen te houden en om hooi vanaf te halen. Daarnaast werden in het voorjaar eieren geraapt en jonge vogels gevangen om in de pot gestopt te worden, in het zeldzame geval tot 200.000 stuks aan toe!. In vroeger tijden werd Drangey dan ook wel de "provisiekast van de bewoners van Skagafjörður" genoemd. Er zijn schamele restanten van bewoning te vinden. (nl)
