- La temporada 1900-1901 del Campionat de Catalunya de futbol fou la primera edició de la competició, disputada pels principals clubs de futbol de Catalunya. El desembre de 1900, Alfons Macaya i Sanmartí, president honorífic de l'Hispània Athletic Club, oferí un trofeu per ser disputat en format de lliga entre els diferents clubs que s'havien creat a Espanya, tot i que finalment només hi participaren equips catalans, donades les renúncies dels madrilenys i mallorquins. El campionat s'anomenà Copa Macaya, oficialment acceptat com el primer Campionat de Catalunya. Fou també el primer torneig futbolístic disputat a Espanya i el tercer a la península Ibèrica. (ca)
- The 1900–01 Copa Macaya was the 1st staging of the Copa Macaya. This tournament is best known for being the very first football competition played on the Iberian Peninsula. The competition was held on the road between 20 January 1901 and ended on 14 April, and it was won by Hispania AC, narrowly beating FC Barcelona by just two points. (en)

- The contest has lost all its interest since only Hispania and Barcelona had the possibility of winning the title, and since at the time teams could not afford to make useless expenses, Franco did not appear in the Tarragona field, so the two points are awarded to Tarragona. (en)
- The 2 points at stake were awarded to Barcelona as Tarragona did not show up most likely due to the stage fright that the Hispania peregrines had instilled in them during their previous visit to Tarragona. (en)
