- The Prelude; or, Growth of a Poet's Mind (De Prelude; of Groei des Dichters Geest) is een autobiografisch, episch gedicht in blank vers van de Engelse dichter William Wordsworth (1770-1850). Het centrale thema van dit lange gedicht is de ontwikkeling van de verteller als dichter. Hij gaat op zoek naar de krachten die zijn verbeelding hebben gevormd en reflecteert op zijn geestelijke crisis en herstel. Wordsworth schreef de eerste versie toen hij 28 jaar was en bleef er de rest van zijn leven aan verder werken zonder het te publiceren. Hij gaf het ook nooit een titel; hij noemde het "Gedicht (titel nog niet vastgelegd) opgedragen aan Coleridge" en verwees er in zijn brieven aan zijn zuster Dorothy naar als "het gedicht over mijn geestelijke groei" ("the poem on the growth of my own mind"). Jest napisany wierszem białym (blank verse, czyli nierymowanym pentametrem jambicznym. Pentametr, czyli pięciostopowiec jambiczny, to znaczy sylabotoniczny dziesięciozgłoskowiec, w którym akcenty spoczywają na parzystych sylabach wersu jest najpopularniejszym typem angielskiego wiersza, stosowanym powszechnie we wszystkich rodzajach literackich, podobnie jak w Polsce jedenastozgłoskowiec i trzynastozgłoskowiec.
