  • The Siege of Khillia and White Fortresses is a part of the Moldavian–Ottoman Wars. After the Ottoman occupation of Dobruja it was the first encounter of Moldavia and the Ottoman Empire in a battle The battle was fought between The Moldavian Voievode Alexander the Good and the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed I Celebi In the year 1420. Following the year 1418, after the death of Mircea the Elder the voievode of Wallachia The little principality who gave the Ottoman Empire A hard time trying to expand it's territory was now finally a vassal. This was great news to the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed I Celebi However this was not great news to the voievode of Moldavia Alexander the Good as he now has no close ally. The ottomans are well known for attacking only during the summer and their desire to have as much influence over Eastern Europe was still on. However In front of the ottomans the small principality of Moldavia was blocking their way so in the night of July 5 1420 Moldavia was attacked by the ottomans. They first Sieged Khillia before attacking The White Fortress by the black sea. In the end Alexander the Good of Moldavia managed to protect both fortresses and cities and expelled the Ottomans from the country making it the first encounter Moldavia had with the Ottoman empire. Later, in 1444 the moldovans sent troops to the Crusade of Varna but this time under the rule of Bogdan. (en)
