Der Name von Edwin Pearce Christy, dem Leiter dieser Theatergruppe, erscheint auf den ersten Drucken als Komponist des Liedes: Edwin Christy bezahlte Stephen Foster dafür, dass er als Komponist des Liedes in Erscheinung treten wollte. Obwohl Stephen Foster diese Entscheidung später bereute, machte er die Vereinbarung nicht rückgängig. Seit 1935 ist Old Folks at Home die offizielle Hymne des US-Bundesstaates Florida.
