This led to the first Partition of Luxembourg, with the loss of Thionville, under the Treaty of the Pyrenees. * The French occupation of Luxembourg before and during the War of the Grand Alliance (1684–1697). * The Prussian occupation of Luxembourg from 1815 until 1867. Under the 1815 Treaty of Paris, which ended the Napoleonic Wars, the fortress of Luxembourg City came under the control of the German Confederation.
