José Francisco Tapia Brea (Salcedo, April 5, 1908-Santo Domingo, June 19, 1984) was a Dominican writer, historian, lawyer, jurist, ambassador and anti-Trujillo fighter. He was part of “group X” led by Ángel Severo Cabral, whose purpose was to eliminate the dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo and take the pertinent measures that would guarantee a democratic process in the country after the execution of the tyrant.

En 1961 escribió la proclama que informaría al pueblo dominicano sobre el ajusticiamiento del dictador. Entre muchos de sus nombramientos y distinciones, se destaca su nombramiento como juez presidente del Tribunal de Primera Instancia de San Cristóbal (República Dominicana), y diecisiete años más tarde, su nombramiento como Embajador Extraordinario y Plenipotenciario de la República Dominicana ante la República del Brasil. En 1996 fue honrado su nombre con una calle en el Sector Evaristo Morales de la ciudad de Santo Domingo, capital de República Dominicana. (es)

He was in charge of unifying the different groups that emerged in various parts of the country with these same purposes, including the group from the city of Santiago led by Federico Carlos Álvarez. In 1961 he wrote the proclamation that would inform the Dominican people about the execution of the dictator. Among many of his appointments and distinctions, stands out his appointment as presiding judge of the Court of First Instance of San Cristóbal. In 1996 a street was named in his honor with in the Evaristo Morales Sector of the city of Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic. (en)
