- Făt frumos din lacrima (dal rumeno il bel principe nato da una lacrima) è una delle più conosciute fiabe di Mihai Eminescu, poeta nazionale romeno, pubblicata nell'inverno 1870. La fiaba può esser definita "fiaba colta" in quanto vi è la presenza di frasi raffinate ed originali (come quella d'apertura e quella conclusiva), riferimenti a precedenti studi filologici dell'autore, descrizioni simili a versi poetici. Come in ogni fiaba romena, Dio, la figura del sacro, è presente, viene nominato ed agisce sui destini e sulle vite degli uomini. Nie jest to imię, a określenie, zaś w poszczególnych utworach bohater może przybierać inne imiona, takie jak Ioviţă czy Greuceanu. Făt-Frumos nie jest bohaterem cyklu bajek, ale nazwą głównego bohatera różnych wątków baśniowych. Zwykle jest najmłodszym synem cesarza, często narodzonym w cudowny sposób, który po dorośnięciu dokonuje bohaterskich czynów, takich jak walka ze zmejami, wiedźmami i smokami, odzyskiwanie skradzionych ciał niebieskich (w bajce P. Ispirescu ), uwalnianie porwanych cesarskich córek, czy też wyprawa w poszukiwaniu nieśmiertelności. Făt-Frumos té també una mínima habilitat en realitzar miracles, així com el respecte ferm en les promeses que fa al seu rei. En alguns contes, és tan precoç que pot plorar inclús abans de nàixer, encara que està habilitat podria tenir un simbolisme a part. Făt-Frumos és normalment el més menut entre los fills d'un rei. En los contes del és una cosa comú que tots els fills d'un rei intenten derrotar el Zmeu o al Balaur, els fills majors fallant abans de l'èxit del menut. Făt-Frumos ha de passar per proves i obstacles que superen l'habilitat d'un home normal. Amb dignitat, sempre porta les seues missions a un fi. Lluita en contra de monstres demoníacs i personatges malvolents (zmeu, balaur, Muma Pădurii, etc.). Viatja tant per esta terra (esta esfera), com per «l'altra terra» (tarâmul celălalt), cavalcant sobre el seu Cal Năzdrăvan ("Cavall Màgic"), que és també el seu conseller. Durant els seus viatges, Făt-Frumos sovint ha de superar un dilema major, relacionat amb la ruta correcta que deuria seguir, i ha d'elegir entre dos opcions negatives. En un conte, una vegada preguntada sobre el camí correcte, una anciana li respon: «Si vas a la dreta, acabaràs en desgràcia; si vas a l'esquerra, també acabaràs en desgracia» (ço se pot comparar amb els contes russos Tsarevitch Ivan, l'ocell de foc i el llop gris o El cavaller valent, les mançanes de la joventut, i l'aigua de la vida, però ací l'heroi, si bé ha d'elegir entre opcions amb aspectes negatius, estas se poden distingir). Segons , esta situació de triar entre dos mals iguals, evoca la condició històrica del , la qual pàtria se véu sempre creuada i amenaçada per poders enemics, i la població nativa va haver d'elegir entre l'aliança amb l'enemic o la lluita constant contra ell. Făt-Frumos és també una figura que apareix en la cultura de Romania i la literatura romanesa. Apareix com a personatge en contes o poemes escrits per autors cèlebres, com Mihai Eminescu, Tudor Arghezi, o Nichita Stănescu. Com símptoma de la ironia del poble romà amb si mateix, Făt-Frumos apareix també en alguns acudits romanesos contemporanis, encara que menys freqüent que Bulă o els polítics importants del moment. In the Romanian folk stories it is common that all the sons of a king try to defeat the Zmeu or the Balaur, the older sons failing before the younger one succeeds. Făt-Frumos has to go through tests and obstacles that surpass ordinary men's power. With dignity, he always brings these to a positive resolution. He fights demonic monsters and malevolent characters (zmeu, balaur, Muma Pădurii, etc.). He travels in both "this land" and "the other land" (tarâmul celălalt) on the ("The Marvellous Horse"), who also serves as his counsellor. At the end of the fairy tale, Fat-Frumos is paired up with the heroine of the story, a fairy maiden: Ileana Cosânzeana, (Fairy Queen) or Doamna Chiralina. In his journeys, Făt-Frumos often has to overcome a major dilemma related to the correct route he is to follow, and is bound to decide between two equally nonsensical choices. Asked about the right way, an old woman gives Făt-Frumos an obscure answer: "If you turn right, you will be in sorrow; if you turn left, you will be in sorrow as well". According to Victor Kernbach, this lose-lose situation evokes the historical condition of the Romanian people whose homeland had been constantly crossed and attacked by foreign powers, as the native population was always forced to decide between two equally unfortunate choices: ally with your enemies or fight them. Făt-Frumos is also a commonplace figure of the Romanian culture and literature. He appears as a character in stories and poems by famous writers, such as Mihai Eminescu, Tudor Arghezi, or Nichita Stănescu. As a symptom of the Romanian people's self-irony, Făt-Frumos can be encountered even in contemporary Romanian jokes, yet less frequently than Bulă or the political personalities of the moment. (en)
