An environmental impact statement (EIS), under United States environmental law, is a document required by the 1969 National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) for certain actions "significantly affecting the quality of the human environment". El documento final recoge si la valoración es positiva o negativa, y si es positiva qué medidas se deben adoptar obligatoriamente para reducir el impacto ambiental tanto de la obra como de la infraestructura finalmente construida.
