Sir David Kirke (c. 1597 – 1654), also spelt David Ker, was an adventurer, privateer and colonial governor. He is best known for his successful capture of Québec in 1629 during the Thirty Years' War and his subsequent governorship of lands in Newfoundland. A favourite of Charles I, Kirke's downfall came with that of the Crown during the English Civil War and it is believed he died in prison.

Im Jahr 1629, während des Dreißigjährigen Krieges, eroberte er die Siedlung Québec in Neufrankreich und hielt diese drei Jahre lang besetzt. Von 1638 bis 1651 amtierte er als Gouverneur der Kolonie Ferryland auf der Insel Neufundland. Il est le fils de Gervase Kirke, un riche marchand écossais vivant à Londres qui est marié à une huguenote, Elizabeth Goudon. Il est élevé à Dieppe, en Normandie, où son père a une activité commerciale. En 1627, le père de Kirke et plusieurs marchands de Londres forment une compagnie pour encourager le commerce et l'établissement de la vallée du Saint-Laurent. Il est gouverneur de Terre-Neuve pour le Royaume d'Angleterre de 1638 à 1651. (fr)
