- Christian Ferdinand Abel (July or August 1682, Hanover, Germany – buried 3 April 1761 (or 1737?), Köthen, Germany) was one of the most famous German Baroque violinists, cellists and especially viol virtuosos. His father was the composer, violinist and organist Clamor Heinrich Abel. For some time Christian served in the Swedish army of Charles XII during the occupation of northern Germany. There he married the Swede Anna Christina Holm. (en)

Abel wywodził się z niemieckiej rodziny instrumentalistów o długich tradycjach muzycznych. Jego ojciec - hanowerski organista kościelny, Clomar, był wziętym kompozytorem ewangelickiej muzyki liturgicznej. Jeszcze większą sławę kompozytora i organisty przewidywał swojemu synowi, narodzonemu zapewne na przełomie lipca i sierpnia 1682 r. Christianowi Ferdinandowi. Przypuszczalnie od siedemnastego roku życia Christian Ferdinand służył w wojsku króla szwedzkiego Karola XII i brał udział w okupacji księstw północnoniemieckich. W tym okresie ożenił się ze Szwedką, Anną Christiną Holm. (pl)
- Christian Ferdinand Abel (juli of augustus 1682, Hannover - begraven op 3 april 1761 in Köthen) was een beroemd violist en Gambavirtuoos uit de Barok. Zijn vader was de componist, violist en organist . Toen Johann Sebastian Bach als Kapelmeester aan het hof van Leopold van Anhalt-Köthen was aangesteld, was Christian Ferdinand Abel de "eerste-musicus" in de hofkapel. Vermoed wordt dat Bach de Drie sonates voor Viola da Gamba en klavecimbel voor Christian Ferdinand Abel heeft gecomponeerd. Abel was ook de eerste persoon die de Zes suites voor onbegeleide cello opvoerde. (nl)
