Wine is, together with beer and grape rakia, among the most popular alcoholic beverages in the country. Bulgaria was the world's second largest wine producer in 1980s, but the industry declined after the collapse of communism. Wine production is growing again, reaching 108 million litres in 2011, an increase of 4.9% from the previous year.

- Wijnbouw in Bulgarije kent een geschiedenis die teruggaat tot de tijd van de Thraciërs. In de jaren 1980 was het land nog de drie na grootste exporteur van wijn. Na de val van het communisme daalde de productie enorm. Sinds 2016 is het volume alweer gestegen naar circa 1,2 miljoen hectoliter per jaar. Hiermee neemt de wijnproductie van Bulgarije de 20e plaats in op de wereldranglijst.Naast wijn wordt er in Bulgarije van druiven ook wel Rakija gemaakt. (nl)
