Antonio Franconi (1737 in Venice, Italy - 1836 in Paris, France) was an Italian equestrian. He started as a juggler and wandering physician, then arranged bullfights in Lyon and Bordeaux. In 1783, he associated with the English horse rider Philip Astley who had opened a riding school in Paris and founded an equestrian theater named Cirque Olympique (French, Olympic circus), which acquired an impressive reputation.

Arrivé en France vers 1760,après avoir quitté Udine a cause d'un duel ou' il avait tué le duellant, il commença par être bateleur et médecin ambulant, puis établit à Lyon et à Bordeaux des combats de taureaux, s'associa en 1783 à l'écuyer anglais Philip Astley qui avait ouvert un manège à Paris, et fonda le théâtre équestre auquel il donna le nom de Cirque-Olympique, et qui acquit une vogue prodigieuse, notamment grâce à la danseuse de corde Mlle Malaga. His sons and grandsons continued to attract the public with the talent of their squired and the perfection of their showmanship in their fantasy and military plays. The last famous squire bearing this name was who died in 1849. Napoleon once remarked acidly to his marshal Joachim Murat, who was gayly attired in an extravagant Polish uniform after the Battle of Heilsberg in 1807, that he looked like Franconi ("Vous avez l'air de Franconi"). Le dernier écuyer célèbre de ce nom est Laurent Franconi (1776-1849). Son fils Victor Franconi a fondé le 3 juillet 1845 un célèbre établissement parisien de spectacles en plein air, baptisé « l'Hippodrome », et situé alors place de l'Étoile.
