Advent Sunday, also called the First Sunday of Advent or First Advent Sunday, among the Western Christian Churches, is the first day of the liturgical year and the start of the season of Advent. On the First Sunday of Advent, Christians start lighting their Advent wreaths, and praying their Advent daily devotional; believers may also erect their Christmas tree or Chrismon tree, light a Christingle, as well as engage in other ways of preparing for Christmas, such as setting up Christmas decorations, a custom that is sometimes done liturgically through a hanging of the greens ceremony.

- Le premier dimanche de l'avent, surnommé « dimanche de Levavi », se situe entre 4 et 3 semaines avant Noël dans le calendrier liturgique romain et dans le protestantisme. Il marque le début de l'Avent mais également de toute l'année liturgique. (fr)
- Första söndagen i advent eller första advent är kyrkoårets första dag. Helgdagen är den fjärde söndagen före juldagen, det vill säga den söndag som infaller mellan 27 november och 3 december. Sina historiska rötter har adventsfirandet i adventsfastan, en fasteperiod som speglade påskfastan och i likhet med denna var 40 dagar lång och därmed omfattade sex söndagar. Denna spegling av påskfastan lever kvar i att Jesu intåg i Jerusalem utgör predikounderlag såväl den första söndagen i advent som på palmsöndagen. Traditionellt i kyrkan är advent alltså en tid av fasta, förberedelse och väntan inför firandet av Jesu födelse vid jul. (sv)
