Étienne Pellot "Montvieux", aka le Renard Basque (the Basque fox), (1 September 1765, Hendaye, France – 1856, Hendaye), was the last known French corsair, renowned for his bravery and success. Some of his ships, notably the Deux-Amis and the Général Augereau, have gone down in corsair legend. He received the Légion d'honneur. Etienne Pellot died in Hendaye in 1856. Every January, children dress up as corsairs and parade the streets of Hendaye to celebrate the return of Étienne Pellot, the last Basque corsair.

Asaltó buques de la Armada Inglesa y española. Fue apresado en innumerables ocasiones pero siempre logró evadirse gracias a sus estratagemas: disfrazado de almirante, general o peregrino burlando así a sus carceleros. Consta además que asaltó la cárcel de Bayona y consiguiendo liberar a cuatro presos. Se codeó con Napoleón quien le ofreció un puesto en la armada francesa que rechazó. (es)

Fue apresado en innumerables ocasiones pero siempre logró evadirse gracias a sus estratagemas: disfrazado de almirante, general o peregrino burlando así a sus carceleros. Consta además que asaltó la cárcel de Bayona y consiguiendo liberar a cuatro presos. Se codeó con Napoleón quien le ofreció un puesto en la armada francesa que rechazó. Falleció en Hendaya en 1856 con 91 años tras librar mil batallas en las que tan solo perdió un ojo. Fue alcalde de Hendaya. (es)
