USS Chimaera (ARL-33) was one of 39 Achelous-class landing craft repair ships built for the United States Navy during World War II. Named for the Chimaera (a mythological character, symbolic of the destructive forces of nature), she was the only U.S. Naval vessel to bear the name. Originally planned as LST-1137, the ship was redesignated ARL-33 14 August 1944. Her design was a modification of the LST Mk.2. Other repair ships and tenders followed her precedent.
