Louis Phillips (born June 15, 1942) is an American poet, playwright, editor, and author of children's stories. Phillips was born on June 15, 1942 in Lowell, Massachusetts. He received a BA from Stetson University in 1964, and MAs from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and CUNY in 1965 and 1967, respectively. Since 1977 he has served as professor of humanities at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, where he teaches creative writing. He is the brother-in-law of John Ranard, photographer.
