Ivan Picelj (28 July 1924 – 22 February 2011) was a contemporary Croatian painter, sculptor and graphic designer. Picelj developed a specific variation of geometric abstraction in Croatian painting by using primary colours and by reducing the shapes to geometric elements. He made sculptures and reliefs in wood and in metal (since 1957). The multiplication of the basic plastic unit within a regular grid is one of his trademark procedures. Ivan Picelj was born in Okučani and died in Zagreb.

Cofondateur, au début des années 1950, du groupe EXAT 51 (Experimental Atelier 1951), groupe d'artistes revendiquant le droit à l'expérimentation artistique, à l'abstraction et, par-dessus tout, à une liberté totale et indépendante de l'expression artistique face au réalisme socialiste. Пицель разработал специфическую вариацию геометрической абстракции в хорватской живописи, используя основные цвета и сводя формы к геометрическим элементам. С 1957 года он создавал скульптуры и барельефы из дерева и металла. Приумножение основной пластиковой единицы в пределах стандартной сетки стало одной из отличительных черт его творчества.
