- نجد جبال شيريكاوا هي سلسلة جبال كبيرة في جنوب شرق ولاية أريزونا وهي جزء من منطقة الحوض والسلسلة في الغرب والجنوب الغربي للولايات المتحدة وشمال غرب المكسيك. السلسلة جزء من غابة كورونادو الوطنية. أعلى نقطة في سلسلة هي، قُنَّةُ شيريكاوا، ترتفع 9759 قدمًا (2975 مترًا) فوق مستوى سطح البحر، قرابة 6000 قدم (1800 متر) فوق الوديان المحيطة بها. ويعود أصل تسمية السلسلة إلى لغة قبائل الأباتشي. - Die Chiricahua Mountains sind ein Gebirgszug im äußersten Südosten des US-Bundesstaats Arizona und gehören zu den Sky Islands. Ihr höchster Gipfel ist der mit einer Höhe von 2985 m. Das Gebirge wurde nach dem Indianerstamm der Chiricahua-Apachen benannt, die in diesem Gebiet beheimatet waren. Sie nannten es das Land der stehenden Felsen. Die bizarren Felsformationen wurden aus den Ablagerungen eines Vulkans geformt, der vor rund 25 Millionen Jahren explodierte. Nach Abkühlung der vulkanischen Asche bildete sie eine feste 600 m dicke Rhyolithschicht, die erodierte und mit der Zeit schlanke Felsnadeln, wuchtige Türme und seltsam geformte Figuren entstehen ließ. 1924 wurde das Chiricahua National Monument inmitten der Chiricahua Mountains eingerichtet. The range takes its name from the Chiricahua Apaches native to the region. Part of the range lies within the 87,700-acre (35,500 ha) Chiricahua Wilderness, managed by the Coronado National Forest.
