Rainer Werner Fassbinder (German: [ˈʁaɪnɐ ˈvɛʁnɐ ˈfasbɪndɐ]; 31 May 1945 – 10 June 1982), sometimes credited as R. W. Fassbinder, was a German filmmaker. He is widely regarded as a prominent figure and catalyst of the New German Cinema movement.Fassbinder's main theme was the exploitability of feelings. His films often dealt with issues of post-war Germany such as the aftermath of Nazism, the German economic miracle, and the terror of the Red Army Faction, as well as themes of love, friendship, and identity.
