| - Els asterismes històrics o Constel·lacions històriques o en desús, són aquelles que van quedar fora del reconeixement oficial, quedant obsoletes per diferents motius. Moltes d'aquestes constel·lacions han existit durant segles, unes altres van ser molt efímeres. La seva importància radica en la seva raó històrica i a causa que apareixen en gravats i mapes celestes antics. (ca)

Molte di queste sono esistite per lunghi periodi di tempo, in molti casi perfino per secoli, e quindi hanno tuttora una grande importanza storica e si possono ancora trovare sulle più vecchie carte stellari. - Former constellations are old historical Western constellations that for various reasons are no longer widely recognised or are not officially recognised by the International Astronomical Union (IAU). Prior to 1930, many of these defunct constellations were traditional in one or more countries or cultures. Some only lasted decades but others were referred to over many centuries. All are now recognised only for having classical or historical value. Many former constellations had complex Latinised names after objects, people, or mythological or zoological creatures. Others with unwieldy names were shortened for convenience. For example, Scutum Sobiescianum was reduced to Scutum, Mons Mensae to Mensa, and Apparatus Sculptoris to Sculptor. (en)

- Voormalige sterrenbeelden zijn oude historische westerse sterrenbeelden, die om uiteenlopende redenen in de hedendaagse astronomie niet langer algemeen worden erkend en niet zijn opgenomen in de officiële inventarisatie door de Internationale Astronomische Unie (IAU). Vóór 1930 waren veel van deze ter ziele gegane sterrenbeelden traditioneel in een of meer landen of culturen. Sommigen handhaafden zich slechts enkele decennia, maar andere werden gedurende vele eeuwen genoemd. Allen worden nu alleen nog erkend omdat ze een klassieke of historische waarde hebben. (nl)
