- Willem Egidius Johannes "Wim" Ernes (2 July 1958 – Schimmert, 1 November 2016) was a Dutch equestrian dressage coach from Schimmert. Ernes was seen as an icon within the Dutch equestrian sport. He was twice the coach of the Dutch national dressage team, his first from 1993 to 1996 and the second from 2013. During his first period the Dutch dressage team won the silver medal at the 1994 World Championships and the silver medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics. During his second period the Dutch dressage team won the silver medal at the 2013 European Championships, the bronze medal at the 2014 World Championships and gold at the 2015 European Championships. In December 2015 he had an epileptic attack due to a brain tumor. He left hospital in January 2016. He was able do things independently, but had to rest. He had quit his job as national coach and was not able to go to the 2016 Summer Olympics. took over his position. For all of his work Ernes was honoured with the gouden speld (golden pin) by the Dutch National Equestrian Federation on 31 October 2016. The day afterwards, on 1 November Ernes died at the age of 58. The team that won the gold medal at the 2015 European Championships, Edward Gal, Hans Peter Minderhoud, Diederik van Silfhout and Patrick van der Meer carried his coffin during his funeral on 5 November 2016. - Wim Ernes (2 juli 1958 - Schimmert, 31 oktober 2016) was internationaal jurylid, lid van de KWPN-hengstencommissie en Nederlands dressuur bondscoach. Ernes heeft zelf enkele paarden in de sport uitgebracht op Lichte tour niveau. Hij was bondscoach van 1993 tot en met de Olympische Spelen in Atlanta, waarbij hij het Nederlandse dressuurteam naar zilver begeleidde. Wim Ernes hield zich bezig met het beoordelen van jonge paarden op het gebied van functionaliteit o.a. via de PAVO Cup. In 2008 werd hij dan ook voorzitter van de selectiecommissie WK jonge paarden. Vanaf 1977 is Ernes actief geweest als jurylid. In 1999 werd hij internationaal jurylid. Hij was "O" jurylid sinds 2007, waarbij hij bij de Olympische Spelen de eer had om achter de jurytafel bij E deel te mogen nemen. Tevens heeft Ernes de functie van voorzitter bekleed bij het KNHS voor de discipline commissie dressuur (sinds 2002) en de begeleidingscommissie dressuur juryleden (sinds 2003). Hij was daarbij lid van de KWPN Hengstenkeuringscommissie, in de richting van dressuur, sinds 2007, waarbij hij per december 2012 in dienst was als voorzitter van deze dressuurcommissie. In januari 2013 trad Ernes wederom in dienst als bondscoach van de Nederlandse dressuurploeg. Ernes was woonachtig in Schimmert, getrouwd en kreeg een dochter. Buiten zijn paardgerelateerde werkzaamheden was hij werkzaam als directielid binnen een koeltechnisch installatiebedrijf. Sinds enkele jaren had hij zich volledig toegelegd op paardengerelateerde functies. (nl)
