They were developments of and intended replacements for the W.12 then in service and differed from each other principally in the choice of powerplant, the W.27 with a Benz Bz.IIIb and the W.32 with the same Mercedes D.III that the original W.12 used. Derivato dal pari ruolo Hansa-Brandenburg W.12 se ne distingueva essenzialmente per la struttura di collegamento tra le due ali, basata su un unico montante interalare per lato più uno centrale, e per una più potente motorizzazione, tuttavia non riuscì a soddisfare le aspettative ed il modello non venne avviato alla produzione in serie.
