She spent nine years on the long-running series, leaving in 1987. Afterwards, she opened her own production company, Victoria Principal Productions, focusing mostly on television films. In the mid-1980s, she became interested in natural beauty therapies, and in 1989, she created a self-named line of skincare products, Principal Secret. Principal became a best-selling author, writing three books about beauty, skincare, fitness, well-being, and health: The Body Principal (1983), The Beauty Principal (1984), and The Diet Principal (1987). Principal werd geboren als de oudste van twee dochters van Ree Veal en Victor Principal. Haar vader was sergeant bij de US Air Force, waardoor het gezin veelvuldig moest reizen. In 1969 werd ze uitgeroepen tot Miss Miami. Ze heeft gestudeerd aan de . Principal heeft in eerste instantie een tijdje als model in New York gewerkt, waar ze acteerrollen probeerde te krijgen. Ze studeerde aan de Royal Academy of Dramatic Art te Londen, waarna ze ging acteren.
