- Velo-city, l’une des conférences cyclables les plus importantes au monde, a eu lieu en 1980, 1984, puis tous les deux ans de 1987 à 2009, et chaque année depuis 2009. Pour chaque édition, l’organisation est assurée par une grande ville / capitale européenne. La ville qui accueille l’événement travaille en étroite collaboration avec l’ECF (Fédération européenne des cyclistes). Velo-city s’adresse à un large public et réunit toutes les parties impliquées dans la gestion et la promotion du vélo comme les institutions, des représentants du monde académique, de l’industrie du cycle, de bureaux d’études et d’associations de cyclistes. - Velo-city is a series of cycle planning conferences that started in 1980 in Bremen. The name Velo-city is a small play on word using the French for bicycle – vélo, and Velo-city can also be read as velocity or speed. European Cyclists’ Federation owns the series name, and the ECF Board is the decision-making body for Velo-city. At the beginning, the conference guests and speakers were mainly bicycle advocates, but today Velo-city is known for gathering people who are involved in the policy, promotion and provision for cyclists. This mixture of people, professions, skills and experience is a valuable component of the events' success. Velo-city is a forum, with people such as stakeholders from local, regional and national authorities, politicians, academics, consultants, industrials, and bicycle users. Velo-city is an occasion for a city to show continuous and lasting efforts to improve cycling in its city. For instance Paris, inspired by the Velo-city 2003 conference, launched Velib in 2007, thereby creating world-wide attention. (en)
- Velo-city is een reeks conferenties over fietsbeleid, in 1980 gestart in Bremen. Velo-city 1980 inspireerde ook tot de oprichting van de Europese Fietsersbond (ECF) in 1983. De conferenties zijn een van 's werelds belangrijkste fora voor de uitwisseling van expertise rond fietsbeleid. De naam Velo-city is een woordspeling met de woorden vélo (Frans voor fiets), city (Engels voor stad) en het Engelse velocity (snelheid). De Europese Fietsersbond is eigenaar van de naam en het bestuur van ECF is het besluitvormende orgaan voor Velo-city. In het begin waren de conferentiegasten en sprekers vooral fietsactivisten, maar in latere edities raakte Velo-city gekend als ontmoetingspunt voor iedereen die betrokken is bij het beleid, de promotie en de voorzieningen voor fietsers. Deze mix van mensen, beroepen, vaardigheden en ervaring is een waardevol onderdeel van het succes van de evenementen. Velo-city is een forum voor belanghebbenden van lokale, regionale en nationale overheden, politici, academici, adviseurs, industrie en fietsgebruikers. Op Velo-city kan een stad maatregelen tonen om het fietsverkeer te verbeteren. - Il Velo-city è una serie di conferenze di pianificazione della ciclabilità iniziata nel 1980 a Brema.Il Velo-city del 1980 ha anche ispirato la fondazione della European Cyclists' Federation (ECF) alcuni anni dopo, nel 1983 . La conferenza è una delle maggiori sedi di scambio mondiale di competenze sulla ciclabilità. La città che ospita annualmente il Velo-city ha l'occasione di mostrare impegno ed effetti nel migliorare la ciclabilità sulle proprie strade. Per esempio Parigi, ha tratto ispirazione dal Velo-city che ha ospitato nel 2003 lanciando il suo celebre sistema di bici in condivisione Vélib' nel 2007 ed attirando l'attenzione del mondo intero.
