Vadú, nickname of Osvaldo Furtado, (January 31, 1977 – January 12, 2010) was a Cape Verdean singer and musician. He defined himself as a real "Badiu" or ironically as a "civilized Black". He was a nephew the brothers of Zezé and Zeca di Nha Reinalda, two great names of the Santiago Island musical scene, Vadú studied in Cuba between 1990 and 1993 where he "drank" the current of Cuban music. He was also a virtuoso guitarist, he took part in Cape Verdean music festivals including Gamboa and Baía das Gatas and abroad especially Portugal and the 32nd Dunya Festival in the Netherlands.

Il chantait la beauté des femmes créoles, ces déesses sans fard que le travail a rendu solides, robustes et courageuses (Preta moda bo), le maïs qui reverdit à la saison des pluies, la lune diaphane qui cristallise ses espérances (Lua), l’amour quasi mystique qu’il portait à sa mère. Décédé à la suite d'un accident de la route en janvier 2010, il laisse derrière lui une trace indélébile dans le patrimoine musical cap-verdien, symbole pour son peuple d'un ami talentueux, rebelle, et à jamais perdu. He appeared in music in 2002 with his first album Ayan (English: yes, Portuguese: sim), in which he contributed three tracks, accompanied by members of the funaná sensational group Ferro Gaita, he later recorded two discs, Nha raiz (or Nha rais, My roots) in 2004 with the participation of renowned Cape Verdean musicians and Dixi Rubera in 2007 where he continued the path of popular rhythms and interior styles of Santiago including batuque, tabanka and funaná along with Latin influences. He was also a virtuoso guitarist, he took part in Cape Verdean music festivals including Gamboa and Baía das Gatas and abroad especially Portugal and the 32nd Dunya Festival in the Netherlands. He died at the age of 32 of a car accident as his vehicle fell 50 meters into the ravine. His body was found two days later. (en)

Estreou-se na música em 2002, com o projecto Ayan, para o qual contribuiu com três faixas, acompanhado pelos integrantes do grupo sensação de funaná, os , e gravou dois discos: Nha Raiz, em 2004, com a participação de reputados músicos de Cabo Verde, e Dixi Rubera, em 2007, onde continuou na senda dos ritmos populares e estilos do interior de Santiago — batuque, tabanca e o funaná —, com influências africanas e latinas. Guitarrista virtuoso, atuou em festivais de música em Cabo Verde, como Gamboa e Baía das Gatas, e em diversos países, tais como Portugal e a Holanda. Morreu aos 32 anos, vítima de um acidente de viação quando o veículo em que seguia caiu ao mar de uma ravina de mais de 50 metros. O seu corpo só foi recuperado quatro dias mais tarde. (pt)
