- The Short Night est un projet d'Alfred Hitchcock sur l'espionnage entre l'Allemagne de l'Est et l'Allemagne de l'Ouest. Le scénario est inspiré d'une histoire réelle, celle d'un espion anglais du nom de George Blake (rebaptisé Gavin Brand dans le scénario) qui, après s'être évadé de la prison de Wormwood Scrubs à Londres, en 1966, avait trouvé refuge en Union soviétique. A romantic suspense thriller with espionage elements, the script was based on both a same-titled novel by Ronald Kirkbride, and the non-fiction book documenting the case of real-life double agent George Blake titled The Springing of George Blake by Sean Bourke, the motion picture rights to both of which Hitchcock acquired.
