- The Summit League ist eine aus zehn Universitäten bestehende Liga für diverse Sportarten, die in der NCAA Division I spielen. Bis am 1. Juni 2007 war sie noch unter dem Namen Mid-Continent Conference bekannt. Die Liga wurde 1982 gegründet. Die Mitglieder befinden sich mehrheitlich im Mittleren Westen der Vereinigten Staaten. Der Hauptsitz befindet sich in Sioux Falls im Bundesstaat South Dakota. Die Southern Utah University hat die The Summit League 2012 verlassen und ist zur Big Sky Conference gewechselt. Als neues Mitglied trat dafür die University of Denver der League bei. Die Liga spielt keinen Football, aber sechs ihrer Mitglieder haben Football-Mannschaften. - The Summit League, or The Summit, is an NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletic conference with its membership mostly located in the Midwestern United States from Illinois on the East of the Mississippi River to the Dakotas and Nebraska on the West, with additional members in the Western state of Colorado and the Southern state of Oklahoma. Founded as the Association of Mid-Continent Universities in 1982, it rebranded as the Mid-Continent Conference in 1989, then again as the Summit League on June 1, 2007. The league headquarters are in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The membership currently consists of 10 full members plus six associate members. The most recent change in the core conference membership is the 2021 arrival of the University of St. Thomas, which began an unprecedented transition from NCAA Division III to Division I. A year earlier, the University of Missouri–Kansas City returned as a full member after a seven-year absence with the new athletic identity of the Kansas City Roos, while Purdue University Fort Wayne left for the Horizon League. A total of 32 schools have been full members, but the only charter member remaining in the league today is Western Illinois University. (en)
