- Ο Στίβεν (Σταύρος) Λάλας είναι Ελληνοαμερικανός πρώην αξιωματούχος του Υπουργείου Εξωτερικών των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών της Αμερικής. Γεννήθηκε στο Ντόβερ του Νιου Χάμσαϊρ των ΗΠΑ, το 1953. Κατηγορήθηκε για κατασκοπεία εις βάρος των ΗΠΑ σχετικά με τη μεταφορά ευαίσθητων στρατιωτικών και διπλωματικών εγγράφων προς την Ελλάδα και συνελήφθη στη βόρεια Βιρτζίνια το 1993. Κατά τη διάρκεια της δίκης του, δήλωσε ένοχος και καταδικάστηκε σε 14 χρόνια φυλάκισης. Αργότερα, του δόθηκε χάρη υπό περιοριστικούς όρους και μετεγκαταστάθηκε στην Ελλάδα για να υπηρετήσει το υπόλοιπο της ποινής του. (el)

Charged with espionage-related offenses in connection with passing sensitive military and diplomatic information to Greece, he was arrested in USA through an FBI sting operation. Lalas pled guilty in federal court to one count of conspiracy to commit espionage, he was sentenced to 14 years in prison. Later paroled, Lalas emigrated to Greece to serve out the remainder of his parole. (en)

Di origini greche, è ex dipendente del Dipartimento di Stato degli Stati Uniti d'America dove era addetto al settore delle telecomunicazioni e che in tale veste aveva lavorato presso varie rappresentanze diplomatiche statunitensi all'estero tra cui Smirne, Belgrado (1984-1985), Istanbul (1985-1989), Taipei (1989), Atene (dal 1990 fino al 28 aprile 1993). Il 3 maggio 1993 fu arrestato in Virginia con l'accusa di aver trasmesso informazioni riservate di carattere militare ad agenti dei Servizi segreti greci. (it)
