Samuel Colgate Jr. (December 12, 1868 – July 16, 1902) was an American football coach. He was the first head football coach at Colgate University and he held that position for two seasons, from 1890 until 1891 (some sources and photos say "until 1892"). His record at Colgate was 5–2. Colgate was the son of business magnate Samuel Colgate, who along with his brother James Boorman Colgate were responsible for a significant amount of financial support to Colgate (formerly Madison) University. In 1890 the school was renamed in honor of the Colgate family.
