- Der Rose Bowl ist ein jährlich ausgetragenes Spiel im College Football, dem Hochschulspielbetrieb der National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) im American Football in den USA, das in der Regel am 1. Januar stattfindet. Es ist das älteste und prestigeträchtigste von derzeit rund 30 sogenannten Bowl-Spielen in der Nachsaison (postseason), zu denen nach dem Ende der regulären Saison Mannschaften nach festgelegten Auswahlregeln eingeladen werden und um eine Trophäe spielen. El Rose Bowl se celebró por primera vez en 1902 y anualmente desde 1916. El Estadio Rose Bowl ha sido sede del partido desde 1923 hasta la actualidad, con una sola excepción en 1942. Es el más antiguo de los Bowls de fútbol americano, y el que ha dado origen a este término para todos ellos, debido a que en 1923 se comenzó a disputar en el Estadio Rose Bowl y cambió su denominación anterior de Torneo Este-Oeste por el del nombre del estadio. El Estadio Rose Bowl se construyó a imitación del Yale Bowl, en forma de tazón o cuenco ("bowl" en idioma inglés) y de ahí el nombre de ambos estadios. El partido generalmente enfrenta al campeón de la Big Ten Conference con el de la Pacific-12 Conference, salvo excepciones. Since 2002, the Rose Bowl Game has occasionally deviated from its traditional matchups for use in "national championship" systems. In 2002 and 2006 (the 2001 and 2005 seasons), under the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) system, the Rose Bowl was designated as its championship game, and hosted the top two teams determined by the BCS system. Beginning in 2015, the Rose Bowl has been part of the College Football Playoff (CFP) as one of the New Year's Six bowls—the top six major bowl games in the national championship system—hosting one of the semifinal games every three years.
