- Richard Michael Oliver Hill, 7. Baron Sandys, DL (* 21. Juli 1931; † 11. Februar 2013) war ein britischer Adliger und konservativer Politiker. Er war der Sohn von und dessen Gattin Cynthia Mary Trench-Gascoigne. Er besuchte das Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth. Von 1950 bis 1955 diente er in den Royal Scots Greys. Danach arbeitete er als Privatsekretär des anglikanischen Bischofs von Jerusalem und für die Hilfsorganisation Oxfam. Als sein Vater 1961 bei einem Verkehrsunfall ums Leben kam, erbte er dessen Adelstitel Baron Sandys, den damit verbundenen Sitz im britischen Oberhaus und großen Landbesitz in der Nähe von in Worcestershire.1968 war er der Deputy Lieutenant von Worcestershire. 1974 war er zunächst der parlamentarische Geschäftsführer (Chief Whip) der Regierung von Premierminister Edward Heath und danach von 1974 bis 1979 der parlamentarische Geschäftsführer der Opposition im Oberhaus. Von 1979 bis 1982 war er der Captain of the Yeomen of the Guard und damit der stellvertretende parlamentarische Geschäftsführer (Deputy Chief Whip) seiner Partei im Oberhaus. 1999 verlor er durch die Oberhausreform seinen erblichen Parlamentssitz. Richard Hill war seit 1961 mit Patricia Hill verheiratet. Da das Paar keine Kinder hatte, fiel der Titel des Baron of Sandys bei seinem Tod 2013 nun an seinen Urgroßneffen 4. Grades, , 9. - Richard Michael Oliver Hill, 7th Baron Sandys DL (21 July 1931 – 11 February 2013), was a British landowner and Conservative politician. Sandys was the only son of Arthur Fitzgerald Sandys Hill, 6th Baron Sandys, and his wife Cynthia Mary (née Gascoigne), and was educated at the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth. He served with the Royal Scots Greys from 1950 to 1955, achieving the rank of Lieutenant. In 1961 he succeeded his father in the barony and took his seat on the Conservative benches in the House of Lords. He served under Edward Heath as a Lord-in-waiting (government whip in the House of Lords) in 1974 and was an Opposition Whip in the House of Lords from 1974 to 1979. Between 1979 and 1982, he was Captain of the Yeomen of the Guard (Deputy Chief Whip in the House of Lords) in the first Conservative administration of Margaret Thatcher. Apart from his political career he was also a Deputy Lieutenant of Worcestershire in 1968. Lord Sandys married Patricia, daughter of Captain Lionel Hall, in 1961. They had no children. Following the death of both Lord Sandys and his wife, the family seat of Ombersley Court was put up for sale. (en)
