- La etnografía de Colombia se caracteriza por ser la mezcla de tres grupos principales: españoles, indígenas y africanos. Al mestizaje de estos tres grupos se sumaron algunos inmigrantes procedentes de Europa, el Medio Oriente y, en menor medida, asiáticos. En el censo general de población de 2018, el 6,68% de la población se autoidentificó como afrocolombiana (incluyendo raizales y palenqueros), el 4,31% como indígena, y el 0,01% como gitana. El 87,58% fue clasificado sin pertenencia étnica, categoría que engloba al resto de las poblaciones que habitan el país, las cuales incluyen mestizos y descendientes de europeos, árabes, judíos, asiáticos, y otros grupos que no aparecen oficialmente en el censo. Mais la réalité est bien plus complexe et la diversité bien plus grande : pour les seuls Amérindiens, la Colombie compte 87 ethnies selon le DANE (Département administratif national de statistique), et 300 (dont 160 menacées d'extinction) selon l'ONIC (Organisation nationale des indígenas de Colombie).La plupart des Colombiens identifient la population et eux-mêmes selon leur ascendance, leur apparence physique et leur statut social. Les relations sociales reflètent l'importance accordée à certaines caractéristiques associées à des groupes ethniques déterminés. Même si ces caractéristiques ne différencient plus pour autant les catégories sociales, elles contribuent encore à déterminer le rang des individus dans la hiérarchie sociale. Des études génétiques se basant sur plus de 60 000 tests sanguins et 25 variables ont pu déterminer que le citoyen colombien moyen typique avait une ascendance à 72,9 % européenne, à 20,43 % amérindienne et à 6,64 % africaine ; par ailleurs, ces proportions varient largement d'une région à une autre. Although these characteristics no longer accurately differentiate social categories, they still contribute to one's rank in the social hierarchy. Public Library of Science (PLOS) genetic research determined that the average Colombian (of all races) has a mixture of European 62.5%, native Amerindian 27.4% , African 9.2% and East Asian 0.9%.
