- Der Portomaso Business Tower (genannt Big Blue) ist das erste und einzige Hochhaus auf der Insel Malta. Er steht in San Ġiljan (St Julian’s). Das Gebäude ist 98 Meter hoch und besitzt 22 Stockwerke (der Fahrstuhl fährt bis ins 22. Stockwerk, das Erdgeschoss heißt hier „Level 0“). Der Tower wurde im Jahre 2001 eröffnet und stößt bis heute bei der einheimischen Bevölkerung auf wenig Gegenliebe. Das Dach und die Antenne werden in rot-blau beleuchtet. Am Fuße des Turms befinden sich eine Einkaufspassage und eine Kirche. Als das Gebäude konstruiert wurde, baute man auch das Hilton-Hotel, das in unmittelbarer Nähe liegt, und einen Jachthafen. Am Hafen gibt es Apartments und Geschäfte. Das Hilton-Hotel besitzt sechs Restaurants, darunter das Blue Elephant, das berühmteste Thai-Restaurant auf Malta. Westlich vom Portomaso Business Tower befindet sich mit Paceville das berühmteste Partyviertel Maltas. - The Portomaso Business Tower (often referred to by locals as simply "Portomaso") is a high-rise office building in Malta. The tower stands in the Portomaso section of St. Julian's, a town just north of Malta's capital city, Valletta. Opened in 2001, the Tower is 97.54 metres (320.0 ft) tall, with 23 floors of mixed commercial office space. It became Malta's tallest building upon its completion, and remained so until 2020 when it was surpassed by the still-under-construction Mercury Tower, also in St. Julian's. The first six floors of the Tower have 465 square metres (5,010 sq ft) of floor space, while the remaining floors have 295 m2 (3,180 sq ft) each. The main floor is occupied by a shopping centre while the top floor of the building is a nightclub with balconies affording views of the island nation. The tower is located close to Paceville, and it overlooks the Portomaso Marina. The surrounding area has many hotels, apartments, bars and restaurants, shops and a tree-lined promenade. The Portomaso Casino is located in the Tower, and was the venue for the 2012 and 2013 Battle of Malta Poker Tournament. (en)

De toren werd in 2001 geopend, is 98 meter hoog en heeft 28 verdiepingen. Tegelijk met de Portomaso Tower werden ook het direct naastgelegen Hilton Hotel en een jachthaven aangelegd. Het hele Portomaso-project beslaat een oppervlakte van 128.000 m². Direct ten westen van de toren ligt Paceville, een bekend uitgaanscentrum. De glazen wanden van de wolkenkrabber bestaan uit verduisterend materiaal, waardoor het gebouw 's nachts vrijwel onverlicht is. Alleen het dak en de daarop geplaatste antenne worden in rood en blauw verlicht. De bouw van de Portomaso Tower was vanaf het begin controversieel. Met name door zijn enorme hoogte maar ook omdat het qua architectuur uit de toon valt bij de omliggende traditionele Maltese gebouwen.
