- Saint Joseph I of Alexandria (Abba Yousab), 52nd Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark. He was the son of one of the rich nobles of Menouf, Egypt. After his parents died, some believers raised him. As an adult, he gave most of his money as alms and went to the desert of St. Macarius the Great and became a monk. When Abba Marcus II became the 49th Pope of Alexandria, he summoned Yousab, ordained him a priest and sent him back. He stayed in the desert until the death of Abba Simon II, 51st Pope. The papal throne remained unoccupied, and Abba Yousab was chosen Pope. He bought properties out of his own pocket, and bestowed them on the churches. Abba Yousab condemned actions of bishops of Tanes and Miser (Cairo); they were excommunicated. He died after 19 years in office, having been a monk for 39 years since the age of 20. (en)

- Papa Giuseppe I o Abba Yousab, noto anche Jucab o Gioseffo in fonti italiane datate (in arabo egiziano يوساب الاولانى; , 771 – 2 novembre 849), è stato il 52º Papa della Chiesa ortodossa copta, venerato come santo dalla Chiesa copta. Era il figlio di ricchi nobili di , in Egitto. Dopo la morte dei suoi genitori, alcuni credenti lo allevarono. Da adulto, diede la maggior parte dei suoi soldi in beneficenza e si recò nel deserto nel monastero di San Macario il Grande, dove divenne monaco. Quando Marco II divenne il 49º Papa di Alessandria, convocò Yousab, lo ordinò sacerdote e lo rimandò indietro. Rimase nel deserto fino alla morte di Simeone II, il 51º Papa. Il trono papale rimase vacante e Yousab fu eletto papa nell'831. Comprò di tasca propria delle proprietà e le conferì alle chiese. Condannò le azioni dei vescovi di Tanes e Miser (Cairo), i quali furono scomunicati. Gli ultimi anni furono turbati dal conflitto con il governatore d'Egitto Malek-ebn-Nasser, che lo avrebbe fatto imprigionare e torturare per estorcergli denaro.
