- Polaria ist ein erlebnisorientiertes Museum in der nordnorwegischen Stadt Tromsø, das sich nahe dem Stadtzentrum unmittelbar am Ufer des befindet. Schwerpunkt des Erlebnis- und Informationszentrums bilden Ausstellungen, die sich mit der Polarforschung befassen. Es ist Teil einer größeren Anlage, zu der auch das benachbarte siebenstöckige mit dem Norwegischen Polarinstitut gehört. Betreiber des Museums ist die Stiftung Polaria (Stiftelsen Polaria). Als nationales Informationszentrum, das auf eine Initiative des norwegischen Umweltministeriums zurückführt, vermittelt es Wissen über die Polargebiete und die Barentsregion. Zu den Attraktionen zählen mehrere Aquarien und Becken, die bekannte Fischarten aus der Barentssee und Meeressäuger wie beispielsweise Bartrobben enthalten. Des Weiteren werden in einem Panoramakino mit 175 Sitzplätzen Luftaufnahmen von der Westküste Spitzbergens und außerhalb der Hauptsaison auch Filmaufnahmen von der Antarktis gezeigt. Das von 1996 bis 1998 gebaute Museum ist in einer charakteristisch geformten Stahlbeton-Konstruktion untergebracht, die an fünf sich an Land schiebende Eisschollen erinnern soll. Der Eindruck einer arktischen Landschaft wird durch die Verwendung von Glas in den Zwischenräumen noch verstärkt; lediglich der Eingangsbereich im letzten Block ist mit Holz aus sibirischer Lärche verkleidet. Der Bau wurde 2003 mit dem Architekturpreis Fabci Norways Eiendomspris in der Kategorie „Spezialbauten“ ausgezeichnet. (de)
- El Polaria es el acuario más septentrional del mundo. Se encuentra ubicado en Tromsø, en el norte de Noruega. En lugar de un acuario principalmente científico, tal como el de Bergen, en la región central de Noruega, Polaria, que abrió sus puertas en mayo de 1998, está diseñado para ser una experiencia educativa, con especial énfasis en las exhibiciones para los niños. La mayoría de lo presentado se centra en las islas del norte de Svalbard. - Polaria is the world's most northerly aquarium. It is located in Tromsø, in northern Norway. Rather than a mainly scientific aquarium such as the one in Bergen in the Norwegian midlands, Polaria, which opened in May 1998, is designed to be an educational experience, with particular emphasis on displays for children. Most of the displays focus on the northerly islands of Svalbard. There is a five-screen panoramic cinema, an "Arctic Walkway" area containing displays of polar exploration equipment, stuffed animals and simulated permafrost, many conventional aquaria displaying local marine life as well as open tanks and display tanks containing rock-shore animals, baby fish and other child-friendly exhibits. Its centerpiece is an open pool containing a group of bearded seals, Erignathus barbatus. These are trained and there are regular displays, as much to keep the animals active and healthy as for public entertainment. The seal enclosure has observation blisters set into its sides, so that visitors can look up at the animals from underneath, and a submerged walkway in a transparent tunnel across the bottom, allowing close access to the animals in their natural environment. The building itself is also worthy of note. Its striking design represents ice floes that have been pressed up on land by the rough seas of the Arctic. This attractive piece of modern architecture echoes the Arctic Cathedral across the harbour in Tromsdalen on the mainland. One of Norway's most famous and successful seal hunting ships, the Polstjerna (T-80-T) has been preserved in a separate museum building less than a hundred metres away from Polaria. - Polaria är ett upplevelsecenter och museum i Tromsø i Troms fylke. Centret öppnade 1998 och ligger mitt i centrum av staden. Här finns bland annat utställningar från polområdena och från Barentsregionen. På centret har man många akvarier med arktiska havsväxter, fiskar och djur. Man har också en stor bassäng med sälar. Det är vattentankar runt omkring och bland annat en glastunnel som gör att besökande kan ha sälar simmande både över och runt sig. Storsäl och knubbsäl er två av Polarias huvudattraktioner. Här kan besökande vara med två gånger om dagen när sälarna får mat. Polaria har också en biograf som visar panoramafilm från Svalbard och film om norrskenet varje halvtimme Polaria har en kafé där de också säljer souvenirer och presentartiklar. Centret ligger bredvid utställingshallen för M/S Polstjerna samt Polarmiljöcentret, där man finner många forskningsinstitutioner, bland annat Norsk Polarinstitutt. Polaria har en speciell arkitektur. Byggnaden består av stora betongblock som lutar så mycket att de ser ut som om de håller på att ramla samman. De kan också ge ett intryck av att det är isblock som har blivit liggande ovanpå varandra. (sv)
