- La médaille de service distingué de Patterson est décernée par le Service météorologique du Canada (SMC) aux résidents du Canada pour des services rendus à la météorologie. Le prix a été créé en l'honneur de M. John Patterson, un météorologue qui a été directeur et contrôleur du SMC de 1929 à 1946, une période importante dans son développement. La médaille Patterson fut décernée pour la toute première fois en 1954. Elle est considérée comme le prix le plus important pour la reconnaissance du travail exceptionnel réalisé en météorologie par des Canadiens. Il ne s'agit pas d'une distinction de la Société canadienne de météorologie et d'océanographie mais il est coutume d'en annoncer la remise pendant le Congrès annuel de cet organisme. (fr)
- The Patterson Distinguished Service Medal is awarded by the Meteorological Service of Canada (MSC) to residents of Canada for services rendered to meteorology. The award was created in honor of Mr. John Patterson, a meteorologist who served as director and controller of the MSC from 1929 to 1946, an important period in his development. The Patterson Medal was awarded for the first time in 1954 to its namesake after enough funds have been collected. It is considered the most important award for the recognition of exceptional work done in meteorology by Canadians. This is not a distinction of the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society, but it is customary to announce its award during the Canadian Meteorological Congress. (en)
