- This is a list of bishops and patriarchs of Aquileia in northeastern Italy. For the ecclesiastical history of the diocese, see Patriarchate of Aquileia. From 553 until 698 the archbishops renounced Papal authority as part of the Schism of the Three Chapters and when they returned to the Roman fold they maintained the title patriarch which was adopted during this schism. The Patriarchs gained the Countship of Friuli and the March of Carniola in 1077 and the March of Istria in 1209. The temporal authority of the patriarchate was lost on 7 July 1420 when its territories were secularized by Venice. The Patriarchate was dissolved in 1751 and its ecclesiastical authority divided between the Archbishop of Gorizia (Görz) and the Archbishop of Udine. (en)

L'Église étant alors une Pentarchie, les archevêques reconnaissent le titre de primus inter pares du Pape romain mais refusent son autorité entre 553 et 698. Ils maintiennent le titre de patriarche au moment de la séparation des Églises d'Orient et d'Occident et ne se rallient à la Papauté qu'en 1209 lorsque celle-ci leur octroie la marche de Frioul et celle d'Istrie, qu'ils gardent jusqu'en 1420. Le patriarcat est dissout en 1752 et l'autorité ecclésiastique est divisée entre l'archevêque de Gorizia et l'archevêque d'Udine. Powstanie patriarchatu wiąże się ze schizmą arcybiskupa Akwilei, Paulinusa w 557, kiedy ogłosił się on patriarchą Grado i Akwilei. W 606 nastąpiło pojednanie z Rzymem, wtedy też rozdzielono patriarchaty w Grado i Akwilei. Po podboju terytorium patriarchatu przez Republikę Wenecką w 1420 urząd stał się tytularny. W 1751 roku został zniesiony, gdy Benedykt XIV zlikwidował patriarchat bullą "Iniuncta nobis" z 6 lipca 1751 roku. Od 1968 roku istnieje arcybiskupstwo tytularne Akwilei. (pl)
- A partir de 533 os arcebispos de Aquileia renunciaram à autoridade do Papa e somente no Séc. VII foi quando voltaram a reconhecer Roma e mantiveram assim o reconhecimento legítimo de Patriarcado, assumido por eles durante o cisma. O Patriarcado ganhou possessões em Friul, a de Carniola em 1077 e da Ístria em 1209. A autoridade temporal do Patriarca perdeu-se a partir de 7 de julho de 1420, quando seus territórios passaram ao Governo de Veneza. O Patriarcado dissolveu-se em 1752 e sua autoridade eclesiástica foi dividida entre o Arcebispado de Gorizia e o Arcebispado de Udine. (pt)
