- The Ouimetoscope was the first Canadian theatre dedicated exclusively to showing movies. It was inaugurated on 1 January 1906 at the corner of Saint Catherine and Montcalm Streets, in what is now the Gay Village of Montreal, Canada. Originally a converted cabaret with 500 seats and a small screen, it was demolished to be replaced with a luxurious 1,200 seat movie palace that featured air conditioning. For eighteen years, the Ouimetoscope was the venue for French and American cinema supplemented with local production, accompanied by live musicians. (en)
- Le Ouimetoscope fut la première salle de cinéma exclusivement consacrée au cinéma au Canada. Construite à partir d'un cabaret converti, la salle est inaugurée le 1er janvier 1906 au coin des rues Sainte-Catherine et Montcalm et offrait 500 places et un petit écran (p. 53). Elle a ensuite été démolie pour être remplacée par une salle de 1 200 places équipée de l'air climatisé (p. 94). Pendant 18 ans, le Ouimetoscope est l'endroit par excellence à Montréal autant pour le cinéma français, le cinéma américain et le cinéma québécois qui était toujours accompagné de performances par des musiciens sur place (p. 68). L'édifice actuel ou se tenait le Ouimetoscope est situé dans l'actuel Village gai de Montréal. (fr)
