- El charlatán de los Nilgiris (Montecincla cachinnans) es una especie de ave paseriforme de la familia Leiothrichidae endémica de las montañas de la India peninsular. Su plumaje es principalmente pardo grisáceo en las partes superiores y castaño rojizo en las inferiores, con prominentes listas superciliares blancas y la garganta y las listas oculares negras, lo que le da un aspecto inconfundible. Es fácilmente detectable incluso cuando está escondido entre la vegetación densa por sus series de llamadas nasales altas. La especie ha tenido una historia taxonómica complicada, por lo que ha recibido varios nombres científicos a lo largo del tiempo. Existen dos subespecies, la nominal de los Nilgiris y T. jerdoni que se encuentra en de Coorg y los montes Banasura de , y que tiene la parte superior del pecho grisácea. Son pájaros omnívoros que se alimentan de insectos, frutos y néctar. En el pasado la subespecie jerdoni se agrupaba con las formas del sur de la brecha Palakkad, que actualmente se han separado en una especie diferente charlatán de Kerala. La especie está restringida a una pequeña zona cuyo hábitat podría ser destruido con facilidad por lo que está clasificada como especie en peligro de extinción. (es)

- The Nilgiri laughingthrush (Montecincla cachinnans) is a species of laughingthrush endemic to the high elevation areas of the Nilgiris and adjoining hill ranges in Peninsular India. The mostly rufous underparts, olive brown upperparts, a prominent white eyebrow and a black throat make it unmistakable. It is easily detected by its loud series of nasal call notes and can be hard to spot when it is hidden away inside a patch of dense vegetation. The species has a confusing taxonomic history, leading to a range of names. In the past the species was considered to have two subspecies, the nominate form in the Nilgiris (earlier called the black-chinned laughingthrush or rufous-breasted laughingthrush) and jerdoni (which is now treated as a full species, the Banasura laughingthrush) with a grey upper breast and found in the Brahmagiris of Coorg and Banasura range of Wayanad. They are omnivorous, feeding on a range of insects, berries and nectar. (en)
