- El Nightingale és un reproductor d'àudio i navegador web lliure i de codi obert. Va néixer el 2010 com a fork del Songbird després que els seus desenvolupadors anunciessin que n'aturaven el desenvolupament per a sistemes Linux. Igual que el Songbird, el Nightingale està basat en la tecnologia de Mozilla i el . També accepta extensions i temes (plomatges) semblants a les extensions del Firefox. Nació como una bifurcación del reproductor Songbird debido al anuncio de los programadores de no continuar desarrollando futuras versiones para GNU/Linux. Al igual que Songbird, Nightingale está basado en la plataforma XULRunner de Mozilla con bibliotecas como GStreamer media framework y libtag que proveen de marcación de archivos multimedia y soporte para la reproducción, entre otros servicios. As such, Nightingale's engine is based on the Mozilla XULRunner with libraries such as the GStreamer media framework and libtag providing media tagging and playback support, amongst others. Since official support for Linux was dropped by Songbird in April 2010, Linux-using members of the Songbird community diverged and created the project. By contrast to Songbird, which is primarily licensed under the GPLv2 but includes artwork that is not freely distributable, Nightingale is free software, licensed under the GPLv2, with portions under the MPL and BSD licenses. Odkąd oficjalne wsparcie dla systemu Linux zostało zakończone przez projekt Songbird w kwietniu 2010 r. część społeczności projektu Songbird, korzystająca z systemu Linux oddzieliła się od projektu Songbird tworząc projekt Nightingale.
